Just in time for ACL’s second weekend.

Voodoo Doughnut, the iconic Portland doughnut shop’s anticipated Austin location, is now soft open on Dirty Sixth. For the time being, the bakery will close when every doughnut is sold. Once staff training is done, Voodoo will be open 24 hours a day and eventually feature live music. Remember, it's cash-only, and no, alcohol won't be served. Check out the cereal and candy-topped sweets that were available last night below. Update, 10 a.m.: Thanks to an eagle-eyed tipster, Voodoo opens at 8 p.m. for now. Update, October 9: A rep for Voodoo Doughnut clarified that the doughnut shop will open sporadically throughout the month until the grand opening on Halloween weekend.

The Portland institution took over the former Bourbon Girl space in March. This is the store’s second out-of-state location, after Denver, and its fifth in the U.S. Eventually, Voodoo plans on expanding internationally throughout Asia, including flagships in Tokyo and Taipei. What flavor should Voodoo's (hopeful) Austin doughnut taste like?

Rooftop patio, bar snacks, and lots of cocktails.

Drink.Well owners Michael and Jessica Sanders are opening a second bar called Backbeat on South Lamar, as reported by Austin 360. The musically-named bar will be found on 1300 South Lamar, next to Ramen Tatsu-Ya. Jessica explained why they decided on the location to the publication:

"We didn’t want to do a second project just to do a second project. We wanted some place that contributed something to the neighborhood it was located in. It came down to finding the right neighborhood. That part of town has so many fantastic restaurants but not any standalone cocktail bars."

The two-story building will have different drink options available throughout the space, including cocktails, beer, and more wine than Drink.Well. The rooftop bar will be dedicated to low-alcohol drinks. Rather than full dinners, there will be snacks from Drink.Well, as well as late hours. The space will be designed by Jamie Chioco, who worked on Counter 3. Five. VII and Perla’s. The duo will preview drinks from the impending cocktail bar at La Dolce Vita on Thursday, October 15.

Cat-loving job seekers should apply.

Austin’s anticipated cafe devoted to felines and coffee, Blue Cat Cafe, is now armed with a colorful food truck set to serve vegan fare. Originally, vegan comfort food trailer Arlo’s was set to partner with Blue Cat, but dropped out to hole up at nearby Drinks Lounge. Gray decided to buy and run her own food trailer in the space, using substitute meats from BBQ Revolution.

The grand opening, looking to be in mid-October, is getting close, now that the cat palace has refurbished floors, murals, stage, and new cat toys. Soon, there will be a super cat highway, shelves, and giant tree. Founder Rebecca Gray, who raised money for the project through Kickstarter, is still hiring hosts, baristas, hosts, and more. Plus, there’s another cat art party for Kickstarter backers on Sunday, September 27 from 2 to 5 p.m.
