The 2022 FIFA World Cup starts on Sunday, November 20 in Qatar. This means that Austin will be awash in soccer jerseys through the end of the series on Sunday, December 18. And for soccer and/or general sports fans, there’s nothing better than watching the matches with rowdy fans, beers, and food.

Several Austin bars are planning on screening the World Cup while offering food and drink. This includes sibling sports bars Haymaker and Black Sheep Lodge, brewery Hopsquad, and ping-pong bar Smash. There are great options for die-hard supporters and bandwagon-jumpers alike. Because of the time differences, some games will air at 4 and 7 a.m., with other matches at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., and 1 p.m.

It’s also worth checking out Austin’s sports bars or just straight-up skipping to drinking beer.

Health experts consider dining out to be a high-risk activity for the unvaccinated; it may pose a risk for the vaccinated, especially in areas with substantial COVID transmission. The latest CDC guidance is here; find a COVID-19 vaccination site here.
