Yes, Valentine’s Day is one of the worst dining days of the year. The so-called romantic holiday just entails costly bills and a forced amorous atmosphere. But, hey, a person still has to eat, and if you’re looking for casual dining options on Monday, February 14, without having to shell out a bunch of money for prix fixe menus, dreaded aphrodisiacs, and being inundated with red and pink everywhere, Eater has you covered.

Here are Austin’s best low-key picks for Valentine’s Day. Avoid the greeting card holiday with bowling and burgers at Westgate Lanes and Lebowski’s Grill, Korean barbecue from Chosun Galbi, tacos from Las Trancas, noodle soup bowls from Ramen Tatsu-ya, and more.

As with all businesses right now, be sure to call ahead to make sure each restaurant is still open or if there are updates on current offerings and service models, as things are changing constantly. Be sure to wear a mask, tip well, and, if you’re ordering delivery, try to order directly from the restaurants themselves.

Health experts consider dining out to be a high-risk activity for the unvaccinated; it may pose a risk for the vaccinated, especially in areas with substantial COVID transmission. The latest CDC guidance is here; find a COVID-19 vaccination site here.
