Happy Easter, Here's Where To Eat Rabbit In Austin

View as Map

Ignore that cold snap: spring is here, and with it Easter and that ubiquitous bunny. While there's a certain charm to decimating a chocolate rabbit from ears to toes, actual rabbits make mighty tasty spring fare as well, and there are plenty of menus in Austin on which you'll find them.

While Parkside is known for its oysters, chef Shawn Cirkiel serves a grilled Hill Country rabbit at his downtown restaurant, and Todd Duplechan, chef at seasonally-focused Lenoir, is currently serving a rabbit curry. And of course, there's Hudson's On The Bend's notable venison and rabbit tenders, and the rabbit and dumplings at Contigo, a dish that helped establish Andrew Wiseheart's reputation as a formidable chef-about-town.

Horrified by this callous approach to lapine dining? We even included a vegan option on our map.

Frank's "Jackalope" sausage isn't music to large, furry ears, but it is to ours: "custom-made smoked antelope, rabbit, and pork sausage, cranberry compote, sriracha aioli, cheddar."

Hudson's on the Bend

Hudson's on the Bend has been serving gorgeous food in the gorgeous Lake Travis area for decades, but that doesn't mean they're not game for anything. On the menu: venison and rabbit tenders, fresh off the grill.

Chef James Holmes is one of Austin's leading culinary experts in the art of upscale, down-home cooking, and at Olivia, he's serving poussin over rabbit & goat dirty rice.

If you're fancying a rather fancier rabbit-and-dumplings experience than the one at patio-casual Contigo, consider trying the dish at Prohibition-esque Peché downtown.
