Readers of Eater usually have the same question: Where should I eat right now? As always, the Austin restaurant scene remains as exciting as ever, as new places have continued to open. With all of this in mind, Eater is updating its monthly heatmap (now in its 138th iteration), highlighting a mix of exciting restaurants, trucks, and food services.

This September update includes Mueller cafe Bottega, bookstore and cafe First Light, French delivery shop Paris 13, and Cuantas Hamburguesas.

Yamas Greek Restaurant

Greek restaurant Yamas opened in Highland Park West in June, with whitewashed walls and wooden furniture. Macedonian chef Dimitrios Kelesoglou serves up dishes like fried feta with sesame seeds, honey, and crumbled roasted walnuts and grilled octopus in a lentil salad. There are indoor and outdoor dining areas.

Barrett’s Coffee and taco truck Vegan Nom teamed up to open this spacious patio spot in North Loop in June. The all-vegan menu includes tacos, queso, coffee drinks, and boozy frozen beverages. There are indoor and outdoor dining services.

Allday Pizza at Flo’s Wine Bar and Bottle Shop

The highly anticipated pizza spot opened its first location this March in Tarrytown, slinging all sorts of New York-style pies and slices topped with creamy cheese blobs, pepperoni, and more. Pair the pies with glasses of wine from host site Flo’s. There are indoor and outdoor dine-in areas.

First Light Book Shop

Yes, it’s a bookstore, but First Light, which opened in August, has quickly become a hot gathering spot in Hyde Park. First Light serves pastries from Texas French Bread and coffee, as well as snacks during the day like cheese boards and sandwiches. There are indoor and outdoor dining areas.

Bottega

This new cafe in Mueller which opened in August serves popular ice cream truck Merry Monarch’s rich Philadelphia-style scoops in flavors like Oreo miso. Bottega also offers coffee and snacks like bruschetta and tinned fish. There are indoor and outdoor dining areas.

Goldy’s

Cookie trailer Cookie Rich has moved locations and added a savory menu with new truck Goldy’s, which opened in July. Goldy’s serves brunchy foods like biscuits and avocado hash browns along with sandwiches and Cookie Rich’s coffee and cookies.

All-vegan fine dining restaurant Fabrik opened in August with influences from Japanese, Italian, and Nordic cuisines. Its ever-rotating tasting menus include dishes like parsnip cappelletti and pickled and smoked tomatoes with cultured cashews and compressed koji melons. Everything from the pasta to the tofu to the infused vinegars is made in-house. There are indoor dining services.

Taco truck Cuantos Tacos expanded into other offerings in August with new sibling truck Cuantos Hamburguesas, also located in the Arbor Food Truck Park. The menu has four kinds of hamburguesas as well as fries fried in beef tallow. There are outdoor dining areas.

Paris 13

Farmers market standby Paris 13 expanded into a ghost kitchen in South Austin in August. Get a brunch or lunch delivered of quiches, madeleines, crepes, and samosas.

The Emmer & Rye team opened its latest restaurant in late April: Ezov, with a whole Tel Aviv vibe and menu, in the Holly neighborhood. Leading the kitchen is Berty Richter, who had operated the now-closed restaurant TLV. On deck is falafel paired with tahini, halloumi with date molasses and dukkah, chicken shawarma, and baklava. There are indoor and outdoor dine-in services.

El Raval

South Lamar tapas bar Barlata was revamped under new ownership to become El Raval in May. Under chef Laila Bazahm, formerly of Eberly, the restaurant will serve modern tapas that take cues from the different immigrant groups in the Barcelona neighborhood of Raval. There are indoor and outdoor dine-in services.

Elementary

Former pop-up Elementary opened a restaurant on South Lamar in July for chef and co-owner Colter Peck’s global fare. That means dishes like birria soup dumplings and a banh mi eclair along with great cocktails from a full bar. It’s open for indoor dining services.

Underdog

A wine bar, wine shop, and Korean-American restaurant, the hotly anticipated Underdog opened in May. The wine list highlights low-intervention and sustainable wineries, and especially winemakers who are Asian women. To go along with the wines are dishes like galbi, an ebi (shrimp) burger, and fried chicken with nori seasoning.
