Ah, the macaron, that colorful French pastry not to be confused with macaroons, the coconut cookies. Rather, two delicate almond-based meringue cookies are connected with a usually sweet filling. Those wide-ranging flavors go from fruity like strawberry or raspberry, nutty like pistachio, sweet like vanilla, to more inventive like s’mores, peanut butter and jelly, and more.
In honor of Sweets Week, Eater gathered the best places to find macarons in Austin. There are solid offerings from French bakery within Vietnamese restaurant Elizabeth Street Cafe, bakery stalwart La Patisserie, French-inspired restaurant’s dessert offering at Peche, and many others.
