When one thinks of Austin, dumplings might not be the first dish that comes to mind. But that should change. The savory wonton wrap filled with meat and/or vegetables, served steamed, boiled, or pan-fried, are popping up on just about every menu around the city. And rightly so: the texture and unique delivery make the bite hard to resist.
Austin has a variety of restaurants offering their own take on the classic dish. There is xiao long bao, aka soup dumplings, aplenty from Wu Chow to Lin Asian Bar, chili-sauce ones from Asia Cafe, spicy dumpling soup from Chen’s Noodle House, spicy lobster dumplings from Xian, Vietnamese takes at Elizabeth Street Cafe, the solid ones paired with rabbit meat from Contigo, and much more.
