When one thinks of Austin, dumplings might not be the first dish that comes to mind. But that should change. The savory wonton wrap filled with meat and/or vegetables, served steamed, boiled, or pan-fried, are popping up on just about every menu around the city. And rightly so: the texture and unique delivery make the bite hard to resist.
Austin has a variety of restaurants offering their own take on the classic dish. There is xiao long bao, aka soup dumplings, aplenty from Wu Chow to Lin Asian Bar, chili-sauce ones from Asia Cafe, spicy dumpling soup from Chen’s Noodle House, spicy lobster dumplings from Xian, and much more.
