Storied Driftwood barbecue spot the Salt Lick is opening a new location of its barbecue restaurant in Fredericksburg, along with a new-to-the-company restaurant and wine tasting room. The new Salt Lick will open at a new development called the Sycamore along Luckenbach Road, near the Highway 290 Wine Trail, in 2025.

The Salt Lick is the first announced tenant at the Sycamore, moving into a 9,000 square-foot restaurant with a patio. The planned menu will feature classic Salt Lick dishes, which likely means barbecue like brisket, ribs, and sausage.

And then, Salt Lick’s wine brand, Salt Lick Cellars, will also open a tasting room and shop in the same development. The restaurant’s owner and pitmaster Scott Roberts also teased a new concept that will join the barbecue spot and wine tasting room in the development, but did not provide more information.

The Salt Lick opened in 1967 and started a winery in 2006. This is not the Salt Lick’s first expansion outside of Driftwood. The Salt Lick currently has a second location in Round Rock, near Dell Diamond, and is a fixture in the Austin and Dallas Fort Worth airports. It also had a more upscale restaurant in Westlake in the early 2000s and planned a location in Grapevine that fizzled out.

The Sycamore will be a 117-acre development with shops, restaurants, and a central promenade. It comes from San Antonio real estate firm LB Development.
