Houston-area mini-chain Bubble Egg has opened its first Austin location. The new cafe is located at 2222 Rio Grande Street, Suite C120 in the West Campus neighborhood as of July 18.

The main peg of Bubble Egg is, naturally, made-to-order Hong Kong egg waffles, aka bubble waffles. These can be served plain or made with fillings like bacon, cheese, Oreos, chocolate chips, or almonds.

The waffles are also available in various sweet and savory combinations. On the sweet side, the waffles are used as ice cream cones, which are then filled with scoops, toppings, and sauces. On the savory side, the waffles are served alongside waffle fries plus assorted chicken items (wings to tender strips), hot dogs, and waffle fries (there’s a hot Cheetos-cheese hot dog-waffle one). There’s also a long assortment of drinks, from espresso, Vietnamese coffee, milk teas, fruit teas, and slushes.

The owners opened the original Bubble Egg cafe in December 2017 in Houston, followed by an additional Houston location and another in Katy, both in 2019.

Other Austin places for bubble waffles include SnoMo, and Pflugerville’s Rollie Rolls.

Bubble Egg Austin’s initial hours are from noon to 10 p.m. Monday through Sunday.
