Favorite Pizza, the latest restaurant from local powerhouse group McGuire Moorman Lambert Hospitality (MML) opens this week. Its first official day at 807 West Sixth Street (the former home of Favorite Liquor & Wine which closed in 2019 after 80 years in business) will be Wednesday, August 4.
Favorite will serve, of course, pizza — by the slice and whole pies — alongside subs, salads, and gelato. Think: a pizza made with clams from sibling restaurant Clark’s with parmesan cream, chopped clams, lemon, pecorino, and chili flake, meatball subs, and chopped salads. To drink, there’s beer, wine, and frozen cocktails like an Aperol spritz slushie.
The interior is designed with a 1980s pizza shop aesthetic in mind: Formica countertops, a candy vending machine, and a wall dedicated to the New York Mets baseball team. The restaurant has a bar, which serves slices, and indoor and outdoor seating.
Favorite was announced in October 2019. It joins MML’s extensive portfolio of over a dozen Austin restaurants including next-door Italian restaurant Sammie’s, Neighborhood Sushi, bakery Swedish Hill, and steakhouse Jeffrey’s. Chefs Larry McGuire and Tom Moorman started as McGuire Moorman in 2009, adding Liz Lambert in 2021. The group’s next project is opening a second location of Vietnamese restaurant Elizabeth Street Cafe within the Saint Vincent Hotel in New Orleans this summer.
Favorite is open for dine-in and takeout for dinner only, with plans to expand to lunch service soon. It’s open Wednesday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., with a pizza window open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 p.m. to midnight.
