There’s a new addition to the taco scene in East Austin: De Nada from 2 Dine 4 Hospitality Group, which is behind Louisiana-style diner Sawyer & Co. and others. De Nada opens at 4715 East Cesar Chavez, next to Sawyer & Co, on Wednesday, June 2 in the Govalle neighborhood.

De Nada serves a small menu of tacos, all served on blue corn tortillas: barbacoa, carnitas, grilled fish, shrimp, chicken, sweet potato, and one with mushrooms, zucchini, and beans. There are also sides like chips and queso or salsa, rice, and black beans, and there’s a kids menu as well.

The drink menu — which includes margaritas, a paloma, and a spicy pineapple drink with mezcal — was created by Chris Bostick, the owner of lauded Rainey Street cocktail bar Half Step. There’s also beer and wine, sodas, coffee, hibiscus tea, and more. Check out the full menus below.

De Nada is a counter-service restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, including a greenhouse with plants for sale. It was designed by Mickie Spencer, whose portfolio includes gorgeous restaurants Hillside Farmacy, Ah Sing Den, and Eberly (which won an Eater Award for restaurant design in 2017). De Nada also offers food-to-go and for delivery via third-party services like Uber Eats.

De Nada started as a food truck at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport’s South Terminal, where the concessions are managed by 2 Dine 4. The new restaurant location of De Nada was announced in September of 2020.

2 Dine 4 was started by Stephen Shallcross in 1994. It includes event venue Swoop House, which opened in 2008, Sawyer & Co., which opened in 2014, and the airport businesses, which opened in 2018. He opened Happy Foods and Swoop Wine Garden within Swoop House in 2020.

De Nada is open Wednesday through Monday from 5 p.m. to midnight.
