Soft serve ice cream shop Cow Tipping Creamery is closing its only Austin location, as noted in a bittersweet Instagram post. The shop at 4715 South Lamar Boulevard in Sunset Valley is closed as of May 2.
Cow Tipping Creamery cited difficulties due to operating during the COVID-19 pandemic and slow seasonal business as the reason for the closure, according to the Instagram post. The shop was known for elaborate customizable soft-serve sundaes with lots of toppings, like the “Southern Charm” with caramel sauce, pecans, and candy, as well as shakes.
Husband and wife team Timothy and Corey Sorenson opened Cow Tipping Creamery as a trailer in north Austin in 2012, a major change after Timothy had lost his job during the recession. Then they then moved into a physical location along South Lamar as part of the Cane Rosso’s first Austin location in 2016. The first Dallas-area location Tipping Cow Creamery opened in 2016, and Cane Rosso owner Jay Jerrier’s restaurant group PILF Restaurant Group then acquired Cow Tipping Creamery in 2017.
The two Cow Tipping Creamery locations in Frisco and Fort Worth will remain open, and there are plans to open a third location in East Dallas.
