An entirely new restaurant from the owners of local taco chain Tacodeli is opening near Lake Austin Boulevard. It’s taking over the former Fabi + Rosi space at 509 Hearn Street sometime this summer or fall.

Little is final about this new restaurant, which is still being figured out. In an email to Eater, Tacodeli co-founder Eric Wilkerson calls it a “cousin restaurant.” He also shared that the Tacodeli trailer currently on-site is a temporary structure for catering and events and will be moved soon.

This new restaurant is taking over beloved closed restaurant Fabi + Rosi, which occupied the spot for 12 years before closing in December due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Wilkerson said that the owners contacted him to take over their lease, which he considered an honor, and he jumped at the chance. “We are proud to carry the restaurant torch for them and hope to honor their legacy and wishes by offering a neighborhood restaurant that complements the community,” he says.

Tacodeli, which opened in 1999, has 11 locations around Texas, including six in Austin. The company most recently opened a location downtown in 2019.
