A local Austin baker is rolling out a monthly babka delivery service called Nana Mary’s Bakeshop. The babka is available for delivery or pickup starting this month.

Nana Mary’s combines more traditional flavors of the sweet Jewish bread like chocolate cinnamon and cinnamon, raisin, and pecan, with a monthly rotating schedule of sweet and savory flavors like peach cobbler, hatch pimento cheese, and miso dulce de leche babka. The babkas are made with local Texas ingredients.

Nana Mary’s comes from Elana Pearlman, the founder of wedding cake bakery Iced Cakes ATX (it was previously known as the Babka Shop). Pearlman started Nana Mary’s this year because she missed having babka readily available, and wanted everyone to be able to have a loaf on their counter. Though she was trained at the Culinary Institute of America, she uses a recipe passed down from her great-grandmother (Nana Mary) for the babka.

Subscribers get one babka every month, and can swap out the monthly special with either of two the traditional flavors. Individual babka orders are also available. Orders must be placed online by the last day of the month.
