A small grocery store and cafe with a not-so-small selection, Tiny Grocer, has opened on South Congress as of March 8. The new shop is located at 1718 South Congress Avenue, next to June’s All Day in the former Farm to Market Grocery space in the Bouldin Creek neighborhood.
Tiny Grocer’s deli sells sandwiches like three kinds of grilled cheese and all-day breakfast sandwiches, salads, and pre-made items like pesto pasta and roast chicken. Former Swedish Hill/Emmer & Rye chef and Bachelorette contestant Page Pressley consulted on the menu.
There’s also a walk-up window that serves coffee drinks, pastries, and vegan soft serve ice cream. The store plans to roll out online ordering and delivery services soon.
On the retail side, Tiny Grocer sells a little bit of everything, from standard grocery staples like produce and sugar to harder-to-find ingredients like monkfruit sweetener. There are also local products like Steamies Dumplings and Swedish Hill bread, wine, and a housewares section.
Owner Steph Steele worked at Whole Foods Market for 24 years, and previously worked at Bunkhouse, the hospitality group started by Liz Lambert that includes Jo’s Coffee and Hotel San Jose, and Swedish Hill.
Peg McCoy opened Farm to Market Grocery in 2005, and sold it to Steele last December.
Tiny Grocer is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
