Asian-American and Pacific Islander Organizations Fundraisers
In the face of the continued violence against Asian Americans in the country, as well as the murders of eight people in Atlanta this week — six of whom were Asian women — North Lamar Korean restaurant Seoulju will donate half of its weekend sales to a GoFundMe campaign supporting Asian American- and Pacific Islander-geared community organizations. The restaurant is open for takeout and dine-in services.
Likewise, Austin baker Natalie Gazaui is holding a bake sale for the Asian Family Support Services of Austin community group. Available are orders of a half-dozen conchas and half-dozen chocolate alfajores. The deadline to place orders is 8 p.m on Friday, March 19, with pickups on Sunday, March 21. Five dollars from each sale will go toward the nonprofit.
There’s a new shirt featuring the names of restaurants owned by Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders across the country, designed by Michael Chan and Eileen Tjan. The Texas section of the AAPI Love Taste Bud long-sleeve shirt includes Austin businesses Dee Dee, a Thai food truck, and cocktail pop-up Daijoubu. The $50 shirts, available in either black or blue and green print, are currently available for preorders through Sunday, March 28. All sales will go toward the Asian-American and Pacific Islander Community GoFundMe
Austin Nonprofit Concert Fundraiser
Famous Austin residents Matthew and Camila McConaughey are hosting a virtual concert benefit, aiming to help Texans affected by the devastating winter storm last month. The We’re Texas concert will feature performances by Gary Clark Jr., Kacey Musgraves, Khalid, Willie Nelson, and numerous others. Plus there will be appearances by Meghan Thee Stallion, Selena Gomez, the Jonas Brothers, Woody Harrelson, and others. The concert will air on Sunday, March 21 at 7 p.m., available on McConaughey’s YouTube channel and Spectrum News.
The proceeds, collected through the couple’s Just Keep Livin Foundation Texas Relief Fund, will be split between several state nonprofits such as the Austin Disaster Relief Network and Meals on Wheels Central Texas.
