A new shop in the Domain Northside is opening soon with Brazilian-style popsicles — including boozy flavors. Picolé, which already has two locations in the Dallas area, will open at 11501 Rock Rose Avenue, Suite 156 on Saturday, February 13, with online ordering for in-store and curbside pickup and delivery.

Picolé, which is the Portuguese word for “popsicle,” will serve 30 flavors of the frozen dessert on a stick, including a few boozy ones featuring liquor from local brands. The flavors fall into the categories of fruity (mango, raspberry-lemonade), creamy (toasted coconut, butter pecan), filled (mango with chamoy, caramel cheesecake), and alcohol-infused (Bailey’s, tequila sunrise). The shop will also have smoothies and a few drinks.

Siblings and co-founders Melissa and Jorge Lara will be in charge of the Austin store (their brother and co-founder Adrian manages the Dallas locations). T heir late father Jorge operated a popsicle shop in Mexico, which inspired the idea for Picolé. However, the popsicles at Picolé have a slightly softer texture than the traditional Mexican paleta due to using less water.

The first Picolé opened in the Bishop Arts District of Dallas in 2017, which a second location quickly following in Deep Ellum. This Austin location will serve as its flagship store.

The Austin Picolé is taking over what had been formerly a location of Alabama-based frozen popsicle chain Steel City Pops, which shuttered all two of its Austin shops in 2019.
