Hot Chicken Restaurant Expansion
Local hot chicken chain Tumble 22 is growing quickly: the company is going to expand with its fourth Austin-area location set for Round Rock at 2111 North I-35. There is no set opening date as of yet. Just in 2020 alone, the group opened restaurants in Cedar Park and West Austin (in the former Magnolia Cafe West space). Co-partners Larry Foles and chef Harold Marmulstein (who runs New American restaurant Salty Sow) first opened Tumble 22 as a food truck in 2017 on West Fifth Street, which turned into a restaurant up on Burnet Road in 2018. There’s also a location out in Houston as of December 2020.

Taco Truck Owner’s Heart Surgery Fundraiser
Cuantos Tacos owner Luis “Beto” Robledo is going to undergo heart surgery. To help out, fellow Austin taco spots are rallying to raise money to fund the surgery and provide additional funds for the chef and his family during that time. Taco trucks Discada and La Tunita 512, taco restaurant Nixta Taqueria, and pizza truck Dough Boys launched a GoFundMe campaign. Likewise, each spot is selling a special T-shirt where all funds will go towards the campaign, available at their respective webstores.

Austin Food Trucks’ Collaborative Sausage
New-school barbecue truck LeRoy & Lewis and seafood truck Huckleberry teamed up to create a collaboration sausage. The resulting link consists of Gulf Coast shrimp, meat from Peaceful Pork, and a special spice blend from chefs Evan LeRoy and Davis Turner respectively. LeRoy’s version, the Shrimp-cago Dog, comes with sport peppers, green relish, celery salt, pickles, onions, tomatoes, and mustard. Huckleberry’s take is the Dockside Dog with escabeche, beer mustard, cilantro, green onions, and papalo, served on a challah bun. It’s available through Sunday, January 24 at both trucks — LeRoy at Cosmic Coffee and Huckleberry at Circle Brewing. It’s available as of yesterday, January 20 through Sunday, January 24 for in-person pickups (host sites have reopened for on-site services).

Italian Restaurant Anniversary Specials
East Austin Italian restaurant Intero is celebrating its three-year anniversary with a bunch of specials available for takeout and dine-in services from Thursday, January 21 through Sunday, January 24. This means half-off desserts featured on its opening menu, wood-fired pizza, as well as a burger and a cocktail.

Hill Country Beer Label Art Contest
Driftwood brewery Vista Brewing is hosting an art contest to finalize the label of its forthcoming beer, the Bee Cave Honey Wheat. Submissions are being accepted through Friday, January 29. The winner’s design will be used for the beer, plus tey will receive cans of the beer, a jar of honey from the brewery, and a gift card. The contest is being run with the Bee Cave Arts Foundation. Partial proceeds of the beer sales will go towards the nonprofit.
