Pflugerville bakery Suga’s Cakery is opening a food truck after a successful Kickstarter campaign. The truck will be found at 310 East Pecan Street in downtown Pflugerville starting in mid-August.
With the new truck, owner Patricia Bedford plans to offer cookies, brownies, pound cake, tres leches, and cheesecake in addition to her popular cupcakes and elaborately decorated cakes.
Currently, Suga’s Cakery operates out of Bedford’s kitchen under the cottage food law. This means she can’t sell anything that must be refrigerated. She told Eater she’s excited to expand her menu and offer more allergy-friendly items.
The truck will also have outdoor seating, as Bedford hopes to foster a sense of community and attract more people to the area. Until the truck opens, Bedford is accepting delivery orders through her website as well as further funding for her Kickstarter.
Bedford transitioned to full-time baker after 10 years as an engineer in the corporate world, having learned the basics of cake decorating from lessons at a local craft store and refining her art and her recipes through taste tests with friends. Suga comes from a nickname for her grandmother, who was the baker in her family and inspired her to start baking.
