Austin Filipino restaurant Be More Pacific is now officially closed in Austin. While the Facebook announcement had described the closure as “indefinitely,” co-owner Mark Pascual confirmed to Eater that the closure on 7858 Shoal Creek Boulevard is permanent and that there are “no plans to reopen” in the city.

The reason behind the North Shoal Creek restaurant is because of the “forced closures from COVID-19, the incredibly slow reopening process and the future economic uncertainty,” according to the Facebook post. The Houston location of the restaurant remains opens.

Both the Austin and Houston locations had remained open for pickup starting on March 16, ahead of the citywide shuttering of dining rooms. The service was shortly halted in Austin on March 21. Takeout continued in Houston and the dining room has since reopened for dine-in service.

Pascual and co-owner Giovan Cuchapin opened Be More Pacific as a food truck in 2011. For the physical restaurant, which opened in 2017, they took over what had been fast-casual pizzeria Rebel Pizza Bar. They expanded into Houston earlier this February.
