New P. Terry’s Burger and Restaurant
Austin burger drive-thru chain P. Terry’s added what is being described as its first new sandwich since it opened to its lineup: the crispy chicken burger. It consists of a breaded chicken patty (buttermilk dip, panko breadcrumbs), with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, Swiss cheese, and mayonnaise. A spicier iteration with pepper jack cheese, grilled jalapenos, and spicy mayonnaise is also available. Both will be available at all locations for a limited time.
The chain also opened a new location in the campus area as of Tuesday, May 19. The 517 West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard restaurant had been home to P. Terry’s fast-casual counterpart Taco Ranch, but co-founder Patrick Terry decided to shutter that in December 2019 to make way for another P. Terry’s because “it just made sense to have a presence at the University of Texas,” he said in a press release last year.
The new restaurant’s dining room is open for dine-in service, with various novel coronavirus prevention measures in place, including acrylic shields at cashier stations and face mask requirements for guests. This is P. Terry’s 19th overall location in Texas.
New H-E-B and Barbecue Restaurant Opening
H-E-B is opening its newest Austin supermarket location at 8801 South Congress Avenue on Wednesday, June 10. The store, just north of Southpark Meadows, will feature the chain’s first Austin-proper location of its barbecue restaurant True Texas BBQ, complete with a drive-thru. That restaurant includes seating, both indoor and outdoor, plus a children’s play area which will remain closed for the time being.
In other H-E-B news: the location on South First Street and William Cannon Drive will close on Friday, June 5. Construction for the big fancy location with a food hall and beer garden on South Congress is being delayed again.
TABC Late Fees Waived
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is waiving TABC license and permit renewal late fees, as announced through a press release today. There’s a 30-day grace period after expiration dates on or after March 13.
Texas Pizzeria Expands
Elgin-based pizzeria Aviator Pizza opened its latest location on 4005 West Parmer Lane in late April. The far north restaurant is currently only taking pickup orders placed online, but it is opening its beer garden for dine-in service starting on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25. Co-owners John McElroy and Dr. Ana Lam-McElroy opened the first Aviator Pizza in Elgin, Texas in 2014. They first expanded into Austin in December 2016.
