New Restaurant Alert
Hot chicken restaurant Tumble 22 opened a new location up in Cedar Park as of Wednesday, April 22, found at 4501 183A Toll Road. Orders can be placed through its website or in-person through its drive-thru. Its hours are from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. The restaurant had opened a food truck branch on Manor Road this month too, but that closed shortly for now.

Texas Distillers Want Direct-to-Consumer Deliveries
A group of Texas distillers, including Treaty Oak, Still Austin, and Real Spirits, is asking the TABC to temporarily allow for direct-to-consumer alcohol shipping during the pandemic through a petition. It’s similar to the one put out by the Texas Craft Brewers Guild earlier this month, asking the same for beer sales. The petition led with the fact that many distillers have pivoted to produce sanitizer for first responders, health care workers, and others. Currently, tap rooms in Texas cannot reopen under the first phase of Gov. Greg Abbott’s executive order reopening businesses in the state.

To-Go Meals Benefitting UT Austin Students
Austin catering company Rosemary’s Catering is selling to-go family-style meals to support students at University of Texas Austin on Friday, May 1. This includes family-style barbecue meals, meats, sides, and desserts. A portion of Texas Exes Takeaways sales will go towards the school’s student emergency fund.

New Farm Produce App
ToMarket, an app allowing chefs and cooks to purchase produce directly from farms, is now available in the state. Currently, the only Texas purveyors are Stonewall-based Windy Bar Ranch and Austin’s Segovia Produce. It’s offering a 20 percent discount for furloughed industry workers.

Austin Bars
Tales of the Cocktail announced the honorees for its annual Spirited Awards. In the central region (which covers Austin), there’s Nickel City and Roosevelt Room under the Best American Bar Team and Best American High-Volume Cocktail Bar (with Half Step included in the latter category), and Midnight Cowboy under Best American Cocktail Bar.

Minor Fire Damage
An RV fire on East 12t Street on Wednesday, April 22 caused some damage to Cajun-Creole restaurant Big Easy Bar and Grill. No one was hurt.

Franklin’s New Sandwich Shop and Bar Renovation Plans Approved
Renovation plans for East Austin spot Uptown Sports Club, which is being turned into a sandwich shop and bar from Aaron Franklin and James Moody, were approved by the Historic Landmark Commission, according to real estate blog Towers.

Build-Your-Own Pizza Kits
A new pizza meal kit ghost kitchen debuted in Austin this week. Assembly Pizza features bake-your-own pies featuring toppings from local restaurants such as Comedor, Chi’lantro, and La Barbecue. Kits include ingredients, including the par-baked crust, a recipe card, and access to an instruction video. It’s making use of the same ordering and delivery platform as Comedor.

Empanada Shipments
San Antonio Mexican bakery La Panadería is now shipping sweet empanadas throughout the state. Orders can be placed on its website for two-day deliveries.

Best of Austin Food
Austin Monthly published its “best of Austin” issue this month. Food-wise, the magazine highlighted places such as InterStellar BBQ for its barbecue, Saigon Le Vendeur’s banh mi, burgers from JewBoy Burgers, and Tex-Mex barbecue.
