Chick-fil-A’s Coming to Downtown Austin
Fast-food chicken chain Chick-fil-A is aiming to open in downtown Austin, as reported by the Austin Business Journal. It’s looking to open within the 600 Congress Avenue building. It would take over the space that had been home to Greek restaurant Athenian Bar & Grill, which closed in 2018.
Crowdfunding Campaign for Taco Truck Manager’s ICE Bond
Jonatan Funes Morales, the manager of food truck Bomb Tacos’s location at The White Horse, was detained by ICE in January and has been in a detention facility in Pearsall, Texas since then. A GoFundMe campaign was started to help raise money for his bond. The initial goal of $15,000 has already been reached, but people are still encouraged to donate, because the excess funds will go towards his family.
Austin Juice Chain’s Expansion Plans
JuiceLand is opening within the downtown Whole Foods on North Lamar Boulevard in April, as reported by the Austin Business Journal. Presumably, this would be similar to the setup at the Whole Foods in Cedar Park. Founder and CEO Matt Shook also potentially thinking about opening the juice store within the food hall planned for the H-E-B on South Congress. Then, he’s also looking to expand the juice chain into San Antonio for the first time with two locations, one of which should open this year.
Thai Elephant Fundraiser
For Thai National Elephant Day this week, Thai restaurant Sway is offering a special menu on Friday, March 13 at all three of its locations. This includes cocktails and T-shirts. Proceeds will benefit the Save Elephant Foundation in Thailand.
