In a great loss for all cheese lovers, fan favorite cheese exhibit Cheeselandia will not be returning to Austin this year for South by Southwest (SXSW), confirmed by a recent tweet. Instead, the event, which showcases Wisconsin cheese, will live on at the Art of Cheese Festival in Madison, Wisconsin, and various events throughout the country. A representative for Cheeselandia shared that it’s possible the exhibit will return for events during SXSW in the future.
Cheeselandia first debuted at SXSW in 2018, when it featured a 70-foot-long cheese board. Last year, the state fair-themed exhibit featured literally tons of cheese, a Ferris wheel of cheese, fondue, fried cheese curds, and a matchmaking app to pair users with a cheese. Both years, lines for the exhibit were quite lengthy, even though it was only open to badgeholders for two days during the Interactive festival.
The Cheeselandia tour, which also brings Wisconsin’s award-winning cheeses for sampling, had stops in New Orleans, Boston, Brooklyn, and other cities last year. Event dates are announced via Instagram.
