Downtown high-rise restaurant La Piscina Ceviches & Fajitas is now open within the Austin Proper building. The Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurant and bar, from the McGuire Moorman Hospitality (MMH) group, is found at 600 West Second Street as of Wednesday, December 2, with dine-in and takeout services.
The menu includes, well, ceviches and a big array of fajitas, ranging from bacon-wrapped filet mignon to whole lobster to vegetables to al pastor. For dine-in service, the fajitas are presented on sizzling tableside planchas. There’s also a bunch of seafood (grilled fish, oysters, lobster quesadillas, sea bass tacos), cochinita pibil, guacamole, queso fundido, and house-made tortillas. Drinks lean Mexican as well, including margaritas and small-batch tequilas and mezcals.
This is the final restaurant to open in the Austin Proper, alongside upper-scale Eastern Mediterranean-leaning spot the Peacock, casual Mediterranean cafe the Mockingbird, and cocktail bar Goldie’s. All are run by MMH. Austin Proper is part-hotel and part-residential building.
La Piscina’s takeout orders can be placed over the phone at (512) 628-1415. There’s indoor and outdoor seating throughout the fifth-floor restaurant. Its hours are from 5 to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and then from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.
During the novel coronavirus pandemic, the MMH team opened South Congress Japanese restaurant Neighborhood Sushi in the former Little Barrel and Brown space in June.
