Pizza during the pandemic isn’t really all that different from pizza before the pandemic. But now, Austin restaurants are shaking up the pie experience by offering pizza kits, allowing people to bake their own saucy, cheesy dishes in their own homes. The ingredients remain the same, it’s just the oven that’s different.
If you feel nervous about trying something new, don’t be. These local pizzerias put together thorough kits, prepping you to sling dough like a pro and master the toppings game with house-made ingredients, all with instructions. Whether getting creative with your own ingredients or sticking to the classics, these Austin mainstays are here to help guide you to great, homemade pizza.
With that, here are five Austin pizzerias and restaurants offering at-home pizza kits, from all sorts of toppings at Bufalina Due, New York-style offerings from Home Slice, to gluten-free doughs from Pinthouse Pizza, listed in alphabetical order.
Bufalina Due
There are three ways to order DIY Bufalina pizza for a fancy night in. First, the Brentwood location is offering a $34 cook-your-own-pizza package, which comes with balls of the traditional, long-fermented dough, a pint of its house-made tomato sauce, a pint of mozzarella, and up to four toppings, ranging from vegetables to meats to greens. Take a hint from their menu to recreate one of the signature pies, or get creative and make your own. Pair a pie with a bottle of wine too.
Then there are more simple kits available elsewhere. East Austin market and restaurant Salt & Time offers individual Bufalina dough balls for $4.20 and eight ounces of the tomato sauce for $3.15. Texas food delivery service Farmhouse Delivery is selling a kit for $14.49, that comes with two dough balls and pizza sauce. Check out the restaurant’s Instagram stories for helpful instructions and tips.
