New Fried Rice Restaurant
Korean fried chicken spot Donkey Mo’s opened up a fried rice restaurant this month. 18 Fried Rice is found at the Lakeline Mall food court at 11200 Lakeline Mall Drive in Cedar Park as of October 20. On deck are six fried rice options, ranging chicken to shrimp to vegetables, plus the Korean barbecue rice bowl with bulgogi, as well as potstickers and spring rolls. The restaurant is open for dine-in, takeout, and delivery services.

Filming Location Scavenger Hunt
There’s a film location scavenger hunt involving a bunch of Central Texas restaurants, put together by nonprofit Women in Film & Television Austin. Locations include the Gas Station, the Mean-Eyed Cat, and Grand Central Cafe (all from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre), Top Notch Burgers and Stiles Switch Barbecue (from Dazed and Confused), Gueros Taco Bar, Texas Chili Parlor, and the Omelettry (from Grindhouse), and Baker Street Pub & Grill (from Office Space), among other non-restaurant locations. People are encouraged to respectfully visit the locations (read: don’t try to enter private properties, etc.) and enter the photos via social media/hashtags or email. Submissions are accepted through Thursday, November 12 and the winners will be announced on Monday, November 16. Prizes include apparel, souvenirs, or gift cards.

Culinary Grant Deadline Extended
The Austin Food & Wine Alliance is extending its culinary grant application deadline to Sunday, October 25 at midnight. It plans on giving away $27,500 this year to people and businesses relating to food and drinks, from producers to chefs.

Austin Taco Expansion
Austin-based restaurant chain Torchy’s Tacos is going to expand into North Carolina for the first time in 2021, as reported by Austin Business Journal by way of the Triangle Business Journal. This will become the company’s eighth state location.
