Two Plaza Saltillo Restaurant Openings
Austin-based burger chain Hopdoddy Burger Bar is opening its 32nd location in East Austin at Plaza Saltillo starting on Thursday, October 22 for dine-in and takeout services. Partial sales from its charitable Goodnight Burger will be donated to the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians. The restaurant chain is also just celebrated its 10th anniversary.
Then, Sunset Valley restaurant Poke Austin opened its second location at Plaza Saltillo this week, found on 1211 East 5th Street, Suite 110. On deck are its customizable poke bowls. The restaurant is open for dine-in and takeout services.
Fall Biscuit-Based Dessert Series
Jules Stoddart, the pastry chef of Little Ola’s Biscuits (aka Olamaie), is embarking on a collaborative biscuit-based dessert series this fall as a way to highlight other pastry chefs in the city. The series kicks off with a pumpkin pie cheesecake (pecan biscuit, cranberry compote, pumpkin-spiced whipped cream) created with Michelle Arcilla Hall of private chef company Cosa Nostra, available now through Sunday, October 18. Future collaborations include Holly Roller’s Callie Speer, Hai Hospitality’s Ariana Quant, Comedor’s Anna Mendoza, and Suerte’s Derrick Flynn. The specials are available for pickups placed online, with preorders available the Monday before each date.
New Bastrop Farm
Austin truck Eden West (née Eden East) opened its relocated farm from Govalle to Bastrop this month at 1910 Main Street. Eden East Farm held its first farmers market this week, and future markets will be announced. To come are weekly seasonal produce bags that will be available for pickups starting on Wednesday, November 4 at the farm and a yet-to-be-disclosed Austin location.
Asian-American Pop-Up
Tribeza profiled the co-founders of Asian-American food pop-up Gan Bei Gals: Jackie Fu, Michelle Kao, and Gabby Phi. They started the pop-up as a way to share their food and experiences with others.The trio most recently sold dishes, based on family and friends, at now-closed temporary pop-up DaijoubuMart.
Free Takeout Desserts
Several Austin restaurants and bakeries are giving away free desserts with takeout orders courtesy of Tuft & Needle, a mattress company, available at specific restaurants on specific days from Saturday, October 17 through Friday, October 23. This means cookies from Italian cafe Uncle Nicky on Tuesday, October 20; chocolate chip cookies from bakery Easy Tiger on Wednesday, October 21; pastries from South Congress coffee shop Manana on Thursday, October 22; salted chocolate chip cookies from New American restaurant Launderette on Friday, October 23; and mint macarons from Bakery Lorraine through Monday, October 19.
