Austin Vegan Barbecue Goes to Los Angeles
While vegan barbecue truck BBQ Revolution looks for a new location in Austin, it is spending the winter in Los Angeles as this month. Owner Blake Newman will serve vegan smoked “meats” like soy curls and pigless pulled pork via the truck and pop-ups around the California city.
GoFundMe Campaign for South Austin Stabbing Victim
A GoFundMe campaign was launched for the family of Freebirds World Burrito employee Johnathan Aguilar, the man who died as a result of the stabbing attack in South Austin last week. The incident began at Bennu Coffee on South Congress the morning of Friday, January 3, when a person attacked another person, as reported by Statesman. Then the instigator went to Freebirds, where he stabbed Aguilar and another employee. Then the person jumped off the roof of the restaurant. The campaign is seeking $8,000, which will be given to Aguilar’s wife and son.
Temporary Austin Restaurant Shutters
Several Austin restaurants and trucks are taking advantage of the New Year for some rest and relaxation and/or sprucing. First, newcomer East Austin taco restaurant Nixta Taqueria is closed from Monday, January 6 through Monday, January 13 so that its co-owners can explore the Baja area of Mexico. Likewise, East Austin bakery Paper Route is closed through Wednesday, January 15 for a break. Then, campus restaurant Don Japanese is indefinitely closed as of the beginning of this year. Finally, North Loop restaurant Foreign & Domestic is closed through Tuesday, January 7 for new dining room floors.
