Japanese Truck Returns
Campus restaurant Don Japanese reopened as a food truck within the University Co-op on 2246 Guadalupe Street as of Wednesday, January 22. The brick-and-mortar branch on 2716 Guadalupe Street has been temporarily closed since earlier this month. The San Marcos location remains open. The restaurant is known for its donburi, aka Japanese rice bowls.
Restaurant Shutter
Mueller restaurant Stella Public House closed up in November 2019. The San Antonio location remains open. The team behind Stella also runs both Austin locations of Halcyon.
Rainey Street Burglary
Rainey Street bar and restaurant Banger’s Sausage House & Beer Garden was burgled earlier this month. According to security camera footage, a person appears to have broken into the restaurant’s main office on Friday, January 10 between 3 and 4:30 a.m. They took Banger’s safe and several electronic devices. A police report was filed and the restaurant is seeking any information about the burglary.
Prix Fixe Restaurant Discount
South Austin restaurant Lenoir is offering discounts on its prixe fixe menu through the end of January. The typically $60 four-course meal will be available for $30 until Friday, January 31.
Houston Chain’s Austin Expansion
Houston restaurant chain Local Foods co-owners Benjy Levit and Dylan Murray are already planning on opening two more locations of the restaurant in Austin after their first one opens in the downtown area in the summer. Those are pegged to open in 2021 and 2022 somewhere in the city.
