Try out one of Austin’s anticipated restaurants before it opens with free tacos at the future site of Reunión 19 from chef Esdras Ochoa. The East Austin restaurant will be giving away free al pastor tacos starting at 3 p.m. today, Friday, January 24, at 1700 East 2nd Street, until it runs out, according to its Instagram post.
Serving the tacos will be Ochoa, who is known for his essential Los Angeles restaurants, the taco-focused Mexicali Taco & Co. as well as meat-focused Salazar. He is also opening a restaurant in Hong Kong called 11 Westside. He was also a contestant on the Netflix cooking competition show The Final Table in 2018, where his team made it to the semifinal round.
Reunión 19 is still expected to open later this month in the former Gotham space, which closed in 2018. It will be a casual restaurant with Mexican dishes like tacos, and cocktails from Daniel Eun, who will be the beverage director at 11 Westside.
