New Pan-Asian Restaurant Opening
1618 Asian Fusion, a new pan-Asian restaurant on 1620 East Riverside Drive in the Riverside neighborhood, is opening soon. Dishes range from duck on lemongrass skewers, charcoal-grilled Vietnamese lemongrass lamb, garlic water spinach, egg rolls, cold noodles, etc. There is a limited event previewing the restaurant today, but it’s sold out already.
Downtown Juice Bar
Austin juice bar chain JuiceLand is opening another location, this time in the western area of downtown at 607 West 3rd Street, next door to recently opened coffee shop Intelligentsia. There’s no word on when it will open.
Austin’s Bar Bouncers
Drinks publication Punch highlighted three Austin bar bouncers — Billy Milano of Nickel City, Moe Martin of Volstead Lounge, and Marina Lebedeva of Mohawk. Milano was involved with the New York hardcore punk scene in the ’80s, Martin trained as a kickboxer, and Lebedeva literally whipped someone who hit her on a scooter.
Food & Wine Grants
Austin Food & Wine Alliance is accepting applications for its annual grants. The nine specific available grants, totaling $70,000, include the Alamo Gives for Mobile Businesses to a food/drink truck, Tito’s Handmade Entrepreneur Grant to a businessperson who experienced difficulties, and the Gina Burchenal Grant to a woman-led business, among others. The deadline is Tuesday, October 15, with the winners announced in early December.
