A Canadian ax-throwing bar, BATL (Backyard Axe Throwing League), is coming soon to Austin. It’s looking to open at the Linc at 6406 North I-35 later this year or early 2020.

BATL will serve alcoholic drinks like beer, wine, coolers, and cider. It will also offer a menu of food options from a local restaurant, which hasn’t been named yet, but will include items like pizza and burgers.

BATL will have coaches on-site to walk guests through the ax-throwing process, and per a representative, bar staff will “monitor consumption to ensure a safe and fun environment.”

BATL was founded in Toronto in 2006 in the backyard of CEO Matt Wilson, who went on to establish the International Axe Throwing Federation (IATF) in 2016. BATL has since expanded to 16 locations in the United States and Canada, including one in Houston. There are also locations planned for Fort Worth, Dallas, and San Antonio.

The Canadian chain joins other drinking-and-ax-throwing establishments Urban Axes (on Airport Boulevard) and an ax-throwing league at Epic Fun on Highway 71. The past time gained popularity in 2017.

Update, 9/17: This article has been updated to the correct term for the International Axe Throwing Federation.
