Caffe Medici, the Austin coffee shop mini-chain, opened a new cafe and roastery in East Austin this week. The sixth location is found at creative complex Springdale General on 1023 Springdale Road in Govalle.
Expect the usual coffee menu, from espresso-based drinks, drip, and cold-brew, along with seasonal takes and tea. For snacks, there are plans to offer doughnuts from gourmet spot Bougie’s, including gluten-free options. There’s table and bar seating as well.
What’s special about this new location is that it contains Medici’s first-ever roasting facility. The space also works as its headquarters, containing its offices and training lab.
Medici’s neighbors in the Springdale General building include Front Page Restaurant, Uroko, and the forthcoming French bakery Julie Myrtille, which should be opening in the fall.
For now, Caffe Medici’s Springdale General hours are limited, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. this week. It’ll begin full hours starting on Monday, August 19: 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
Co-owners Michael and Allison Vaclav opened the first Caffe Medici in Clarksville in 2006, followed by locations on the Drag, downtown, and South Lamar.
