Valhalla Esports Lounge, a combination bar, restaurant, and gaming hub, is moving into West Sixth this summer. It’s taking over the space at 710 W 6th Street that J. Black’s vacated last year, and it’s set to open on Thursday, August 15 with a party.

In terms of food and drink, the restaurant will serve “classic bar food with a nostalgic twist,” according to Hans Goss, founder of Valhalla. That means Funion-flavored onion rings, Doritos mozzarella sticks, and the like. In terms of drinks, there will be a full bar with cocktails, local beers, and drinks like boozy slushies.

Valhalla also boasts quite the gaming setup, with 12 gaming PCs, six consoles, and 26 television screens, which will all be free to use. Goss plans to host tournaments and watch parties at the lounge, as well as be open for events.

Goss also plans to open a location in Houston in 2020, and is fundraising to build more locations. He found support in the gaming community after getting out of the military, and after attending a watch party for the Houston Outlaws (an Overwatch League Team) that crammed 600 people into an old warehouse, he realized there was a need for a physical space for gamers to socialize.

Note: Valhalla Esports Lounge is not related to Valhalla Tavern on Red River Street.

Update, July 29: This article has been updated to reflect the grand opening date for Valhalla.
