New Southeast Asian Truck
Thai and Laotian spot Talād is opening its food truck on Friday, July 26. The Southeast Asian food truck will debut at Circle Brewing Company at 2340 West Braker Lane, serving from 5 to 10 p.m. Expect dishes like moo ping (pork skewers), kra pow moo krop (stir fried pork belly with jasmine rice), mae khong gai yang (grilled chicken), tod mun pla (red curry fish cakes), and kanom dok bua cookies (intricate cookies made with coconut cream and black sesame seeds). After opening, the truck will roam throughout Austin.
Restaurant Thefts
A former restaurant staffer allegedly stole from his previous workplaces the Brewer’s Table and Lamberts. Bartholomew Fox is accused of burglary, taking over $5,000 from both restaurants, according to Statesman, in May.
Food Nonprofit Donation
Austin nonprofit Keep Austin Fed launched a week-long campaign to raise funds, which began on Sunday, July 7. The organization is asking for monthly donations of $7 to take extra food from commercial kitchens like Tacodeli and Trader Joe’s to feed local charities like Angel House and Open Door.
Mexican Restaurant’s Lease Renewal
The Great Hills Market location of Mexican restaurant Manuel’s is staying put in far northwest Austin through 2025. The 10201 Jollyville Road restaurant renewed its lease — along with other tenants of the plaza including movie theater Regal 8 Arbor Cinema, Fire Bowl Cafe, and La Madeleine — which means those plans to develop the area for future apartments, retail shops, and restaurants is being paused for now. Manuel’s also has a second location in the downtown area on Congress Avenue.
