Franklin Barbecue’s Vacation
Franklin Barbecue and its crew will be taking its annual vacation this week starting on Wednesday, July 31, running through Thursday, August 8. It’ll reopen on Friday, August 8. For those looking for barbecue in the meantime, check out Austin’s best barbecue joints and barbecue spots near Franklin’s East 11th Street location.
Brunch Race
A brunch-themed running race is coming to Austin in the fall. The 5.12K Run to Brunch will include both 5K and 10K running options along Riverside Drive, plus it ends with a brunch-centric party at Auditorium Shores. There’s food (participating restaurants include Lin Asian Bar, Loro, Sway, Jacoby’s, Ooga Booga Waffles, etc.), music, and activities. It takes place on Sunday, September 22. Entry fees are $50 for the 5K and $60K for the 10K. The race is raising money for cancer support nonprofit Livestrong.
Best of Austin’s Restaurants and Food Picks
Austin Monthy’s Best Of issue is here. Restaurant- and food-wise, this includes Deckhand Oyster Bar (best seafood with a twist, for its Gulf Coast seafood-slash-Southeast Asian menu), local food options at the Austin Bergstrom-International Airport, Discada (best taco), bakery (ThoroughBread), among others.
