The Arrive East Austin Hotel, which opens today, is being rounded out by a new coffee shop. The Arizona-based Cartel Coffee Lab, found at 1813 East 6th Street, will open starting sometime next week.

This is Cartel’s first Texas location. The simple coffee menu focuses mostly on espresso drinks, like the One & One, which is an ounce of espresso served alongside a two-ounce macchiato. Then there are cold brew, drip coffee, and teas.

The food at Cartel Coffee Lab will be concocted by the kitchens of the hotel’s two restaurants, Goan-Portuguese Vixen’s Wedding and casual Cajun Lefty’s Brick Bar, which are set to open next week as well. This means the food menu will be overseen by Todd Duplechan and Jessica Maher, who are running the hotel’s restaurants. They’re also the chefs and co-owners of Austin’s intimate restaurant Lenoir.

Cartel Austin will give out free drip coffee on Friday, July 19, as well as offer people the chance to win free coffee for a year. Once open, its hours will be from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Co-owners and founders Jason and Amy Silberschlag first opened Cartel in Arizona, growing with six locations in the state. It expanded with its first out-of-state location in California as part of Arrive Hotel’s Palm Springs location in 2018. They decided to continue the partnership with the hotel group for Austin.
