Moxy Hotels, the “millennial-friendly” branch of the Marriott hospitality brand, is opening its first Texas location in Austin at 2552 Guadalupe Street in the West Campus area along the University of Texas Austin. The hotel will feature a 24-7 taco restaurant: Zombie Taco. It’s all set to open sometime in late 2020.
The 24-hour taco restaurant, which already exists in Chicago, is most known for serving giant burritos (17-pound ones, according to its website). Plus there are tacos with new-school fillings like grilled adobo barbecue chicken, Baja-style fish, and spicy quinoa/cauliflower, bowls, quesadillas, and desserts for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late night.
The restaurant will be found on the ground floor communal space of the hotel, which will feature a whole bunch of concrete details. Other elements of that area include gaming tables a complimentary cocktail from the check-in desk, dubbed Bar Moxy, for guests. There are also plans for a patio with lounge seating and fire pits.
This will be Zombie Taco’s second location, and there’s one pegged for Louisville next year too. There are Moxy Hotels throughout the country, including Washington, D.C., New York, and New Orleans.
This particular Moxy Hotel is owned by hotel management company White Lodging, which is opening three other hotels in the Austin area, including a Marriott in downtown, the Otis, and the AC Hotel, both of which will be found near campus.
