Austin Chef’s Oaxaca Food Tours
El Naranjo owner and executive chef Iliana de la Vega announced the dates for her next series of food tours in Mexico, specifically Oaxaca and Mexico City for 2020. Both areas are places the chef knows very well: she grew up in Mexico City, her mother is from Oaxaca, and she opened the original El Naranjo in Oaxaca. The current Oaxaca dates are from January 22 through 28; March 24 through 30; and September 23 through 29; costing $2,700 per person. The next available Mexico City ones are actually taking place in 2019 from October 9 through 14, costing $3,200.
Austin Restaurant Collaborations
Austin Japanese restaurant Uchiko’s next collaboration dinner will take place with Mexican-inspired restaurant Suerte on Monday, July 1. Uchiko chef de cuisine Edward Sura and Suerte executive chef and Eater Austin 2018 chef of the year Fermín Núñez will cook up a six-course meal featuring Japanese and Mexican fare. It takes place on Monday, July 1 at 6:30 with reservations at $175 per person.
Austin Chef’s Japanese Dinners
Austin chef Kevin Fink of Rainey Street restaurant Emmer & Rye is traveling for two-evening chef collaboration in Tokyo. The New American chef will be cooking with chef Daisuke Nomura of Shojin (a vegan Buddhist style) restaurant Sougo. The dinner will center on the idea of aromas. It takes place on Friday and Saturday, June 28 and 29.
