Best Austin Bars Awards
The annual Spirited Awards, which covers the world’s best bars, bartenders, etc., revealed its nominees last week, and Austin was represented. Under the Best American High Volume Cocktail Bar category were Rainey Street cocktail bar Half Step, Eater Austin bar of the year 2017 everyday neighborhood bar and Nickel City, and downtown cocktail bar Roosevelt Room (whose co-owner Justin Lavenue was Eater Austin’s bartender of the year 2015) . Nickel also nabbed an additional nod in the Best American Bar Team category. The winners will be announced on Saturday, July 20.

Visiting the Austin Airport Without Flight Tickets
The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is thinking about letting people who aren’t flying through the transportation hub visit the terminal anyway. People would have to go through the security line to hit up its restaurants, shops, and check out its music and art installations. The Airport Advisory Commission is talking about the idea, which most likely likely not happen until the airport’s full dining restaurants are open later this year. The question is why would people want to do that when they can visit the original locations of the mostly local restaurants and shops in austin anyway?
