East Austin Mexican restaurant Takoba is finally and fully reopened on 1411 East 7th Street as of last week. The space was renovated and there’s an updated menu with new dishes and drinks as well as old favorites, like pozole, queso, and those margaritas.

Ahead of the reopening of the full restaurant, Takoba unveiled its new bar, Barzón, at the same address in March, just before South by Southwest. The bar, which took the place of the previous Cantina El Milamores, features mezcal, beer, cocktails, and various of the same food items at the restaurant like tacos, flautas, and chile rellenos.

Takoba closed in January 2018 for these changes, aiming to reopen by the World Cup. That didn’t happen but it temporarily reopened for the big soccer competition series in June anyway. Onwer Jose De Loera, who also runs taco drive-thru El Tacorrido, originally opened the restaurant in 2010, and added the mezcal bar in 2013.

The reopened Takoba’s hours are from 4 to 10 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday.
