Austin Airport Restaurant Opening
The latest restaurant opening in the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is fried chicken sandwich chain Flyrite Chicken, which actually made its debut at the end of South by Southwest on Saturday, March 16. On deck are fried and grilled chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders, salads, wraps, and sauces. The breakfast menu, which is served until 10:30 a.m. daily, includes breakfast tacos and chicken and waffles. It’s open from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
Diana Kennedy in Austin
The famed Mexican cuisine expert Diana Kennedy is being honored with a party at Mexican restaurant Fonda San Miguel. There will be passed appetizers bites, cash bar, and books which will be available for purchase. Kennedy will also sign books. It’s happening on Monday, May 6 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $35. The proceeds will go towrds cooking nonprofit the Diana Kennedy Center.
Loquat Cider Information
Austin cidery Texas Keeper Cider is looking for loquats for its next cider. It’s asking for information about loquat tree locations so that the team can pick the fruits themselves for optimal production quality. In exchange, the cidery will give people a bottle of the resulting cider.
Restaurant Healthcare Surcharge
North Loop restaurant Foreign & Domestic includes a three percent healthcare on all bills in order to help the North Loop restaurant pay for its staffers’ healthcare. Co-owner Nathan Lemley said he and co-owner Sarah Heard opted to do this instead adding the costs to its dishes for transparency. The surcharge can be removed if people don’t want to pay it. This is similar to how Italian restaurant L’oca d’Oro added a hospitality surcharge in lieu of tipping to its bills.
