St. Edward’s University Wants to Open a South Congress Restaurant

Plus more restaurants open in the Austin airport, and more news

South Congress Restaurant
South Austin college St. Edward’s University is planning on leasing out the former El Gallo space on South Congress to a new restaurant. The university purchased the 2910 South Congress Avenue space in October 2017, nine months after longtime, family-run Tex-Mex restaurant El Gallo closed at the address because of the high operating costs.

More Austin Airport Restaurants Open
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport’s dining scene is expanding with the opening of even more restaurants this week. This time, it’s East Side Pies and Hat Creek Burger Company, both found at Gate 21.

Pro-Chick-fil-A Protest
Christian groups protested the San Antonio city council’s ban of Chick-fil-A at the city’s airport by hosting a “Save Chick-fil-A Day” protest at the Texas Capitol this week. The council is rethinking its decision this week as well.

New Texas Barbecue
Former La Barbecue pitmaster Brendan Lamb opened his own barbecue joint out in Ponder, Texas called Smiley’s Craft Barbecue. He decided to venture on his own after La Barbecue’s Los Angeles expansion plans, of which he was supposed to help out with, fell through.
