Veracruz All Natural, the city’s best taco truck, is finally for real opening an East Austin restaurant. After finding out that the original taco truck was being kicked out of its 1704 East Cesar Chavez Street home last month and then finding out that its lease was extended through the end of this year, co-owners Reyna and Maritza Vazquez decided to look for a permanent home in East Austin and found it on 2501 and 2505 Webberville Road. The plan is to move into the new restaurant space sometime in 2020.

“It was never a matter of where we would buy a property,” Veracruz wrote in a blog post. “Our hearts were always set on East Austin.” It’s where Veracruz first opened in 2008, and it’s where it tried to open a restaurant back in 2014 on East Cesar Chavez.

“What scares us is the thought of East Austin, and even Austin in general, losing its identity or its soul,” the post continued. “Therefore, our goal as business owners is to hopefully do our part in not only maintaining Austin’s unique identity and soul but retaining our own.”

Veracruz was set on owning the future restaurant space too. It decided to look in the Webberville area because of Fleet Coffee (“one of our favorite coffee shops”), Gourmands Neighborhood Pub, and the Cavalier. It isn’t sure if it will use the original food truck elsewhere yet at this point.

Currently, Veracruz runs three trucks: the East Cesar Chavez one, Manchaca Road, and Mueller; as well as two restaurants in North Shoal Creek and Round Rock.
