Free Queso
Kerbey Lane Cafe’s queso recipe (read: not actual queso) is on board of the current SpaceX Falcon rocket which will attempt to land on the moon tomorrow. The recipe is part of a letter from Austin mayor Steve Adler. To celebrate that, the all-hours diner is giving out free queso to dine-in guests on Thursday, April 11 from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.

Restaurant Chef Shuffle
Founding executive chef of brewery-restaurant the Brewer’s Table Zach Hunter has left. The chef, who was previously the chef de cuisine of progressive Southern restaurant Fixe, hasn’t revealed what he is doing next yet. While an Eater tipster noted that the restaurant’s food menu has been cut back since the departure, a rep for the restaurant confirmed that it wasn’t true. Currently, the kitchen is being overseen by current staffers.

Queso Competition Call
The annual Quesoff is now looking for contenders in all four of its categories: meat, spicy, veggie, and wild card. The cheesy competition will take place on Saturday, July 27, at the Mohawk.

Downtown Sushi Shutter
Looks like the downtown Austin location of Texas Japanese chain Piranha Killer Sushi has closed. It’s been shuttered since January, according to Community Impact.

This article has been updated to clarify the length of the food menu at Brewer’s Table since the chef departure.
