Ah, April Fools’ Day, the one day when you can’t really trust anything you read on the Internet and elsewhere. As usual, Austin restaurants and food/drink companies are participating in annual pranks, and here’s what’s out there so far:
Sweets delivery service Tiff’s Treats’ fake offering of the day was the Easter Basket cookie, which sounded actually pretty realistic and decent. The cookie involved marshmallow Peeps, jelly beans, marshmallow cereal, sour candy, and red licorice.
All-day restaurant Better Half faked that it was going to get rid of its beloved cauliflower tater tots, but no, the tots are staying on the menu.
Pinthouse Pizza pretended to one-up fellow brewery Austin Beerworks with its pretend-announcement of Pinthouse Beerworks in South Austin, complete with a mechanical unicorn.
Local cider company Austin Eastciders pretended to release two new hot ciders within its Maker’s Stash lineup: the spicy wasabi-ginger cider and the THC (tetrahydrocannabinol aka the psychoactive component of cannabis ) cider. Why? “because why stop at ginger and why stop at CBD?” (The latter is the non-psychoactive cannabis component.)
Whataburger fashioned burger-scented candles.
Austin distillery Deep Eddy Vodka feigned a collaboration with California hot sauce company Tapatío with a hot sauce vodka.
