After just a year in business, essential ramen restaurant Yoshi Ramen closed in December 2018 on 3318 Harmon Avenue in Hancock . Its sister vegetarian restaurant Veggie Heaven still remains open on 1611 West 5th Street.
According to a Facebook post, owner Stacy Chen decided to close Yoshi in order to focus on Veggie Heaven, which was experiencing “a decline in sales.” There are plans to incorporate Yoshi’s vegan dishes into the Veggie Heaven menu.
Yoshi Ramen opened in January of 2018, differentiating itself from Veggie Heaven by serving dishes with meat. Chen used inspiration from her grandmother’s ramen shop in Osaka, Japan. It was lauded by the New York Times in an article heralding the city’s Japanese restaurants.
Veggie Heaven was run by Stacy Chen’s mother, Mei. She closed the restaurant in 2014 to retire. Stacy picked reopened the restaurant in its current location on West 5th Street in April 2017. No word yet on what will become of the Yoshi Ramen space.
