Roya, the forthcoming Persian restaurant from chef Amir Hajimaleki, is previewing its dishes with a pop-up dinner this month. The dinner will be held at Eden East at 755 Springdale Road in Govalle on Thursday, March 21,
The pop-up dinner will celebrate Nowruz, the Persian New Year, which falls on the same date. The the menu of the three-course dinner includes a royal egg with labneh and chives; sous vide halibut with saffron and pistachio sauce, sabzi polo (herbed rice), sabzi kuku (herb cake) and condiments; and a pistachio cake for dessert.
The dinner will also feature wine parings from Darioush Winery, a Napa-based winery owned by Persian winemaker Darioush Khaledi. The evening also includes a haft-seen (a display of items that symbolize spring renewal) and live music.
The dinner was originally slated for October but rescheduled due to the water crisis. It will start at 6 p.m. and tickets are $100. The dinner benefits the Austin Food and Wine Alliance.
Details on Roya’s opening are still scarce — there is still no address for the restaurant.
Chef Hajimaleki currently operates District Kitchen + Cocktails in Circle C, which opened in 2013, and Oasthouse, which opened in 2015. He’s opening a second location of District in North Shoal Creek this year. He and the restaurants’ pastry chef Dennis Van won an episode of Netflix baking competition show Sugar Rush last summer.
