Austin is getting what might be its very first ice cream infused with cannabidiol (CBD), the compound derived from cannabis. East Austin boozy frozen sweets shop Prohibition Creamery will start selling its CBD-infused red velvet ice cream starting on Valentine’s Day, Thursday, February 14 at 1407 East 7th Street.
The Afternoon Delight consists of red velvet ice cream with swirls of cream cheese frosting, all infused with a hemp CBD elixir from North Carolina CBD company Soul Addict. The frozen sweet will be available on Prohibition’s menu indefinitely.
CBD is a compound derived from cannabis. Importantly, it doesn’t contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the psychoactive component of marijuana, which means it doesn’t get you high.
Using CBD in food and drinks has become increasingly trendy within the past year, like frosé, coffee, cookies, and more.
Recently, New York City’s Department of Health forced a restaurant and bakery to stop its production of CBD-infused foods.
